Sources
Every date published on Dayvessa is traceable to a named source.
We prioritise official government and education sources and do not rely on blogs, forums, social posts, or unverified calendars as the primary basis for published dates.
Our source hierarchy
Dayvessa checks sources in this order:
1. Official state and territory education departments for school terms and school holidays.
2. Official state and territory government websites, gazettes, and public-holiday authorities for public holidays.
3. Fair Work Ombudsman and Australian Government sources where national rules or cross-state interpretation is relevant.
4. Official calendars, legislation, government PDFs, and other authoritative publications.
5. Reputable secondary sources for cross-checking only, never as the primary source when an official source is available.
If an official source has not yet published a date, Dayvessa does not estimate or invent one.
Sources by state and territory
– New South Wales — NSW Government for public holidays and the NSW Department of Education for school term and holiday dates.
– Victoria — Business Victoria and other Victorian Government sources for public holidays, including local and regional variations where applicable, and the Victorian Department of Education for school terms.
– Queensland — Queensland Government public holiday information and Education Queensland school calendars.
– Western Australia — WA Government public holiday information and the WA Department of Education for school term dates.
– South Australia — SafeWork SA and other South Australian Government sources for public holidays, and the SA Department for Education for school terms.
– Tasmania — WorkSafe Tasmania for statewide and regional public holidays, and the Department for Education, Children and Young People for school terms.
– Australian Capital Territory — ACT Government public holiday and school-term information, including official ACT school term publications.
– Northern Territory — NT Government public and regional holiday information and the NT Department of Education for school term dates.
Fair Work Ombudsman and other Australian Government publications are also used where national rules need to be checked, for example when interpreting substitute-day arrangements.
Regional, local and sector-specific dates
Not every public holiday applies to an entire state or territory.
Some dates apply only to a region, municipality, sector, industry, or part of a day. Dayvessa records these distinctions separately so that a regional or sector-specific holiday is not presented as a statewide day off.
Examples include regional show holidays, bank holidays that apply only to certain workers, and part-day public holidays.
You can read more about how these distinctions are handled on our Methodology page.
Source verification
Each Dayvessa dataset keeps a record of its source, verification status, and relevant notes.
When a source changes or a date is corrected, the affected dataset is reviewed and verified again before it is treated as confirmed.
If Dayvessa and an official government source ever disagree, the official government source takes precedence.
Spotted something that looks wrong?
We do not currently have a public issue-reporting form.
If you notice a date that appears incorrect, please treat the relevant official government source as authoritative while the Dayvessa data is reviewed.
